He placed the toy into a velvet lined gift box, sealing it with a ribbon tied in the familiar knot he had used for half a century. A profound sorrow settled over him; he had given hundreds of toys to hundreds of children, but this one felt much different. It was his final echo in this world, a last fragment of joy crafted for the person who needed it the most. He pressed his palm gently against the box, wishing the box well on its journey before finally extinguishing the light and leaving the silent workshop behind.
